Interior design: Carousel nursery

Taking a serious step in the right direction! I've been fuzzling to long with character-designs and first-line details! I really want to become a professional imagineer, but several feedback-sources have concluded I'm limited when I comes to perspective and spacial-design.

I buckled up and really invested some serious hours developing this project. It's an idea I once imagined when I was having trouble getting enough hours of sleep. I'm getting ridiculously creative when I'm staring at te ceiling and imagine things I could create. 'What would an awesome nursery look like?'... Well, like this! This concept always came back to me when I started staring at my marvelous white ceiling.

I've always been a little interior designer when it came to my own living space. Moving & decorating has always been a huge process and passion of mine. But I've had limited schooling when it comes to interiordesign. My admission test at my first school resulted I had really HIGH potential at the interiordesign-department, even the teachers insisted this would be a better choice for me. However I decided to become a graphic designer during the 2nd year. But then again: I've had 12 months of basic-interior knowlegde, let's make the best of it!

Tutorial - Disneyfied!

Time for a new tutorial! I've discovered a new technique I'd like to share with everyone! I have always been a huge Disney-fan, but it feels complete to turn yourself/loved ones into these characters! This project used to be a fun-based project, but I think it's a serious style I'd like to develop in the future!

This technique helped me to develop my own creative habits and made me work on a solid style of drawing. However I've never been a big fan of tracing lines from a picture: this just gives you a little push to make the the base-drawing with the right proportions!

Cows can fly!

This lovely lady repesents one of my many test-illustrations to figure out to work with groups of multiple layers. I used to work from the top layer to background-layer, I feel so ashamed! I figured out it's such a waste of time editting the top-layers after I'm finally done with the background of the artwork. It seems so logical, but somehow I managed to do the opposite. Dumb dumb dumb

Magical Monkey Mismo

Working on a fortuneteller-inpsired style-project to expand my portfolio. I've started to publish my illustrations in a more interesting way using simple animations! A character truely comes to life when there's a simple movement. It draws the attention of the viewer, I'll be using this technique more often!

Imagineering; Darkride - board 2

Working on my imagineering-portfolio! It's been a while, which feels kind of shamefull to me. My attention has been focused on the wrong obligations. However I've learned so much from it, I think it just wasn't my call. I've decided to suck it up and start working on the things that are really important to me. Just go for it!

So I decided to renew my 'Little mermaid darkride' concept and start all over again! I have much more experience working on items and characters... but I decided to challenge myself! It took me 9 hours to finish this piece, but it was totally worth it! I started working much faster on my digital paintings thanks to my last assignment in Australia! Things have been seriously speeding up! This is going to be interesing!

Client - decordesign Australia!

Having the honor to illustrate an extensive serie of background decorpieces of Fairfax media's & McDonalds's christmas-events themed ''Escape to Neverland''. I was asked by Belle-Laide Events in Sydney to produce digital paintings of these decorpieces, and deliver them in vector format for printing (5 metres high)! It's been one hell of an adventure! I've been working on this project 12 -16 hours a day, for maybe longer than a month. It's been the biggest challenge I've ever faced in my career as a freelance artist, but the best educational experience so far! It's been so great working with talented and patient people with an unique feeling for creating a story and have a passion for creating a magical setting as well!

The events were a great succes! With a giant 3D illustrated Peter Pan book set the scene. A four-metre-high paper pirate ship sailed at the back of the dance floor, while paper mountain ranges loomed over the Lost Boys; even the Pan crocodile was on the first floor.

Everybody was wearing wristbands saying ''never grow up'', reverting to childhood has never been so appealing. Of the nearly 1300 staff attending, about 98 per cent were in costume. People were dressed as Snow White, Smurfs, Mary Poppins, Super Mario Bros, the Hulk, crayons, pirates, 101 Dalmatians, superheroes and lots of fairies.

Schoolproject - 'Paperstory' stopmotion

Working on this 1 minute animation  has been such a great adventure! My college-academy forced me to use a technique I didn't feel comforable with. Challenge accepted! I didn't have much experience using stopmotion... but I got such a fast feeling for it in a short time! Remembering how I posed my hands and make the camera *click* again has been one huge drama and took hours to produce. But it really has given me a better insight how much work a stopmotion animation can be. I seriously respect the big guys producing stop-motion animations 120 minutes long!

My teachers weren't that excited about this project. However they gave me bad grade and comments on this project, I really had so much fun doing this!
